In the evening, a big party was organized in one of the most luxurious restaurants in the city. The hall was filled with guests, laughter and conversations. In the center of the hall stood Anna, holding her little son. She was talking to her friends and did not even notice what was happening around her.
Suddenly, a strange creaking sound was heard from above. Some of the guests looked up at the ceiling. The sound was repeated, and people began to worry.
“What was that sound?” a woman whispered.
People were already looking up, but Anna was still busy with the child.
The next second, a man jumped out of the crowd and pushed Anna with all his strength. She fell to the ground with the child. At that moment, the huge crystal chandelier broke and shattered in the place where she had been standing just a second ago.
Panic broke out in the hall. Everyone ran to help.
Anna, still not understanding what had happened, got up and turned to her savior.
And froze.
In front of her stood David.
The same David, with whom she had parted years ago under difficult circumstances and had never seen again. The last time they had spoken was almost eight years ago.
— David? … — Anna could barely uttered.
— Are you okay? — the man asked anxiously.
Anna nodded.
It turned out that David had accidentally appeared at the same event. He was one of the first to notice that the torch holders were damaged. When he saw that Anna was in danger, he did not think about the past or hurt feelings. He simply ran to save her.
Anna was silent for a long time. Then she looked at her son, then at David.
— You saved our lives today.
David smiled.
— Sometimes a second is enough to remember what is really important.
That evening they talked for a long time. The insults of the past did not disappear instantly, but both of them understood that a lot had changed over the years.
And the greatest miracle was that a chance meeting, which began with danger, ended with a new opportunity to start everything from scratch.
