After the marriage, the young woman and her husband decided to live in the same house where the man’s mother also lived. At first, everything was calm, but over time, domestic disagreements began to become more frequent.
One day, when the son was at work, only the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were left at home. The usual conversation in the kitchen turned into a disagreement. Both were tired and nervous.
A little later, water was spilled on the floor. The daughter-in-law was upset by the situation and asked for it to be cleaned. The mother-in-law, not wanting to continue the argument, quietly approached and tried to take the cleaning cloth.
At that moment, the door opened and the son entered.
He saw his mother, crouched near the floor, and his daughter-in-law standing next to her. At first glance, the situation seemed very uncomfortable.
“What is going on here?” he asked.
There was a moment of silence in the room.
The mother-in-law could have complained or presented the situation in a way that suited her, but she did something else.
She smiled and said that water had just been spilled and they were going to clean it up.
The daughter-in-law was surprised. She expected another argument, but instead she heard a calm response.
At that moment, the son also realized that both of them were tense and tried to change the atmosphere. He suggested that they sit together and have tea.
They talked for a long time during the evening. For the first time, the daughter-in-law heard how difficult it was for the mother-in-law to share her son with someone else, and the mother-in-law understood that the young woman was simply trying to adapt to her new life.
From that day on, all the problems did not disappear, but their relationship began to change. They learned to talk more and make fewer assumptions.
Sometimes the biggest change in a family begins not with a big event, but with a small moment when someone decides not to continue the argument.
